Our all-respected Tareck Anis Ahmed (Pioneer Batch) is no more

MarEngr. Tareck Anis Ahmed has breathed his last in this evening (6 Feb 2017) at 6:30 PM at the residence of his son-in-law (Capt Asif Mahmood. [Residence: H-68, Rd-7, Cantonment Bazar R/A, Dhaka]. Inna lillahe wa inna ilaihe rajeun.

About 10 years before, his wife Mrs. Shahana Anis passed away on 1 Sept 2006.

He was a legendary PIONEER Mariner of the then East Pakistan and Bangladesh throughout his life and was like a strong umbrella over all of us.

He commenced his Cadet-ship education in UK in 1951 as 1 of 5 Cadets of the then Pakistan PSC 1st Batch. In his sea-career, he rose upto the highest rank – Chief (Marine) Engineer and served various national & foreign ships.

“[1951] Engr. Cadet Tareck Anis Ahmed & Engr. Cadet Shafiuddin Ahmed went to Royal Navy Technical College, Devonport, UK for one year induction course before going for shipyard/workshop training and other two went to Southampton, UK. Capt. Shafi was the only Nautical Cadet from East Pakistan. He was sent to HMS Worcester moored in the river Thames near Tilbury, London, UK.”

He was MD of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, DG of Dept of Shipping and served at many key-positions in his invaluable life. His life-sketch is an ideal path for us. May Allah bless this unique soul.

A Personal Note: Tareck Anis Sir phoned me 3 times during 1st week of January; that was my last conversation with our Sir. And this evening I phoned too…. nothing came but sound of silence…
