With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved alumnus Iftekher Qayum (20E), affectionately known as Babu, who passed away in the early hours of 9 March 2026 in Vancouver, Canada, after a prolonged illness.
إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un
(Surely, we belong to Allah and surely to Him we shall return.)
Iftekher had been battling serious health complications for over a year. After extended hospitalization, he was moved to a care home a few months ago, where he spent his final days. His passing is a profound loss to the Bangladesh Marine Academy (20th Batch) fraternity and the wider mariners’ community.

We pray that Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, grants him eternal peace, and admits him to Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah also grant patience and strength to all those who mourn his loss.
As he has no immediate family in Canada, members of the community are kindly requested to attend his Janazah prayer if possible.
