In Loving Memory of Capt. Ritesh Talukder (BMFA-14N)

It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that the Bangladeshi Mariners’ community mourns the untimely passing of Captain Ritesh Talukder (BMFA-14N), a respected Master Mariner, mentor, and leader, who left us on 29 October 2025, while his vessel was en route to Panama.

Captain Ritesh Talukder was not only a skilled and responsible ship’s master, but also a compassionate human being who deeply cared for his officers and crew. His professionalism, humility, and commitment to duty left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of sailing with him.

A Final Voyage Marked by Courage and Duty

On 10 October 2025, while the vessel was anchored at English Bay, Vancouver, Canada, Captain Talukder began experiencing serious health issues, including severe weakness, loss of appetite, and rapid weight loss. Despite his deteriorating condition, he remained focused on his responsibilities and the welfare of his ship and crew.

Concerned officers monitored his condition and promptly informed the company. Arrangements were made for immediate medical attention once the vessel reached port. On 12 October, upon berthing, Captain Talukder was transferred directly from the jetty to the hospital.

Even during this difficult time, his thoughts remained with his juniors and the ship’s operations. He personally assured his Second Mate of providing a Chief Mate recommendation, encouraged him to continue learning, and gave clear instructions to ensure the vessel’s readiness for departure.

Later that day, the crew received the heartbreaking news that the Captain had been declared unfit for duty, and the vessel had to sail onward without him—an emotionally overwhelming moment for everyone on board.

Subsequent medical reports revealed the devastating diagnosis: Stage IV cancer.

On 29 October 2025, as the vessel anchored at Panama, the crew received the news they feared most—Captain Ritesh Talukder had passed away.

Captain Talukder’s passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and the wider maritime fraternity. He will be remembered for:

  • His exemplary leadership and seamanship
  • His kindness and mentorship toward junior officers
  • His unwavering sense of duty, even in illness
  • His integrity, humility, and human touch

We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and maritime colleagues. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time, and we wish them strength, comfort, and peace as they mourn this loss.

Rest in Peace, Captain Ritesh Talukder.

Your legacy will continue to guide and inspire generations of mariners.
