The Bangladesh maritime fraternity deeply mourns the passing of Captain Md. Momtazul Haque (15N), Bangladesh Marine Academy, who passed away on 8 July 2026 in Houston, Texas, USA, after a courageous battle with stomach cancer.
Born on 17 May 1960 in Rajshahi, Captain Momtaz graduated from the 15th Batch of Bangladesh Marine Academy in 1980 and went on to establish a distinguished maritime career, serving with dedication and professionalism throughout his years at sea, including his long association with MISC Gas Tankers. His competence, integrity, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the highest standards of seamanship earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues across the maritime industry.

Captain Momtaz completed his final voyage only ten months before his passing, bringing to a close a long and honourable seafaring career.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Captain Momtaz was affectionately known throughout the marine community as “Magician Momtaz.” Gifted with an extraordinary talent for magic, he delighted shipmates, friends, classmates, and audiences with performances that brought laughter, wonder, and joy wherever he went. His warm personality, sense of humour, and ability to connect with people made him a beloved figure among fellow mariners.
Even during his illness, Captain Momtaz faced life’s challenges with remarkable courage, patience, and dignity. He leaves behind his beloved wife, his only son, and countless friends, classmates, and fellow mariners who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.
As we bid farewell to Captain Md. Momtazul Haque, we remember not only a respected Master Mariner, but also a kind-hearted human being whose friendship, generosity, and positive spirit touched many lives. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of seafarers.
On behalf of the Bangladesh maritime community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
May Almighty Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, grant him the highest مقام in Jannatul Firdaus, and bless his family with patience, strength, and comfort. Ameen.
