The “Gold Standard” of Maritime Excellence
The Chartered Master Mariner (CMMar) designation is globally recognised as the “Gold Standard” of professional excellence for Master Mariners. Introduced in 2013 by the Honourable Company of Master Mariners in partnership with The Nautical Institute, the CMMar is awarded following a rigorous, peer-reviewed and evidence-based assessment process.
It recognises:
-
Exceptional professional competence

Demonstrated leadership
-
Significant contribution to the global maritime industry
A Rare National Milestone
Capt. Ghulam Hussain becomes only the second Bangladeshi to achieve this elite distinction, following Zillur R Bhuiyan, who first brought this honour to Bangladesh in 2021.
A gold medalist of the 11th batch of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Capt. Ghulam’s professional journey reflects excellence, dedication, and global leadership.
He has been a member of The Nautical Institute since 1989, serving as:
-
Founder Secretary and later Chairman of the NI Dhaka Branch

Council and Technical Committee Member of The Nautical Institute
Currently residing in the United Kingdom, he serves as Deputy Director, Maritime Affairs at the Bahamas Maritime Authority, contributing significantly to international maritime governance.
