Abdul Hannan (10E) – 25 years with AMSA, A Milestone : Qamruzzamaman (11E)

It is my pleasure to share with you the Good News Story from AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority)’s intranet homepage. It is about one of the jewels in the Bangladeshi Mariners crown who is none other than Abdul Hannan Bhai (10E). Last month marked his 25 years with AMSA – Congratulations to Abdul Hannan Bhai for achieving the milestone!

Abdul Hannan Bhai is my immediate senior but not even in my wildest dream 44 years ago as a junior cadet in the Marine Academy I would have imagined that we would be working in the same organisation and the bulk of that time side by side in the same office. Abdul Hannan Bhai was the first Bangladeshi Mariner to join AMSA in 1993 and still going strong after 25 years. I am with AMSA only for 8 years now and I can say that because of him all other Bangladeshi Mariners in AMSA are working with pride. His contributions to AMSA have been acknowledged at all levels across the whole organisation. He set the benchmark and that is what keeping us going. He earned respect from staff working at clerical level to the Executives including General Managers and the CEO. He is known as a mobile computer for his exceptional ability to hold information in the brain and process those as and when required. I can personally testify for this as I worked with him in the same team under his supervision. People in AMSA look up at us for him. He has made us proud in AMSA.

Recently AMSA celebrated his 25 years of service coinciding with a Board meeting in Melbourne where the Chairman and the CEO acknowledged his contribution to AMSA and presented him with certificate of appreciation and presents.

Sadly for us (Bangladeshi) in AMSA he will retire soon but the good news is he will continue with consultative work for IMO where he has as good a reputation. AMSA has nominated him to work for IMO to carry out mandatory Audit of Member States. This way Australia will be contributing to IMO through one of the best employees they ever had. Take a bow Abdul Hannan Bhai.

On behalf of global Bangladeshi Mariners can I say

Well done Abdul Hannan! We are proud of you!
