The Bangladesh maritime community is deeply saddened by the passing of Syed Nure Alam (14N), a respected member of the Bangladesh Marine Academy fraternity, who passed away in Dhaka on 7 September 2026 after several days on life support.
Syed Nure Alam (14N)
Syed Nure Alam belonged to the 14th Batch of Bangladesh Marine Academy (Chattogram) and was remembered by his contemporaries and juniors as a quiet, gentle, and dignified individual. To many members of the maritime fraternity, he was a respected person whose calm demeanour and humble personality left a lasting impression during their formative days at the Academy.
After leaving Bangladesh Shipping Corporation while serving as a Second Mate, he embarked on a new chapter of life and eventually became an Australian citizen. Throughout his professional career, he developed considerable expertise in dynamic positioning vessels and sailed extensively in Australian waters, earning the respect of colleagues and fellow mariners for his professionalism and dedication.
Despite leading a largely private life, Nure Alam never lost touch with the friendships and bonds forged during his Academy years. In later years, he divided his time between Bangladesh and Malaysia and was known for making unexpected visits to reconnect with old friends and enquire about their wellbeing. These thoughtful gestures reflected the warmth and affection he continued to hold for his fellow mariners and classmates.

Captain Saydur Rahman (14N), a lifelong friend and batchmate, recalled that they joined the Marine Academy on the same day and passed through their viva and medical examinations together. From those earliest days until the end of his life, Nure Alam remained a reserved, modest, and deeply respected individual.
During his final days, he was cared for with immense love and devotion by his siblings and niece. Despite the best efforts of his family and medical team, he could not recover, leaving behind a community of friends and fellow mariners who will miss his quiet presence and enduring friendship.
As we bid farewell to Syed Nure Alam (14N), we remember a mariner whose life was characterised by humility, professionalism, loyalty, and kindness. Though he preferred to remain away from the spotlight, his sincerity and genuine concern for others earned him the affection and respect of all who knew him.

May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, illuminate his grave, grant him eternal peace, and bless him with the highest place in Jannatul Ferdous. May Allah grant strength, patience, and comfort to his bereaved family during this difficult time. Ameen.
