Captain QABM Rahman awarded Ekushe Padak 2022
We are so happy to share the good news that Capt. QABM Rahman has been awarded Ekushe Padak. Congratulations to Capt. Rahman.
Capt. QABM Rahman was part of a team delegated by Prime Minister Tajuddin from Mujib Nagar to go to Dhaka on 3rd day of liberation of Bangladesh to form an embryotic Government in a highly volatile, lawless situation.
His dream was to set up Bangladesh merchant marine and established Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) within two months of liberation (5th February1972) by Presidential order no:10.
During river cruise with Bongo Bandu and Mrs Indira Ghandi,(attached photo) he persuaded and procured first ship , the flag ship of Bangladesh: Banglar Doot.
Incidentally, most of my time during about 12 years at sea passed in this ship and travelled most harbours in Middle East, Africa, UK, and Europe with average stay between one to 4 weeks.
Capt. Rahman continued his relentless struggle within unstable, political bureaucrats and signed up UK-continent liner agreement to ensure BSC ships receive adequate cargo and earn foreign currency in this war-torn country.
He convinced Bongo Bandu and prevented Bangladesh Navy to take over our beloved Marine Academy immediately after the liberation.
Captain Rahman’s long struggle and contribution in Bangladesh Maritime arena cannot be portrayed within this short text.
May Allah keep him in best health, safe and sound.
