Pioneer Mariner Capt. Sufi M Ashraful Islam on his final voyage.

Informing with heavy heart that Capt. Sufi M Ashraful Islam sir has breathed his last today morning (15 July 2010) at Dhaka.

Inna lillahe wa inna ilaihe rajeun.

In 1952, he was 1 of the 5 Cadets that had been selected from the-then East Pakistan by Pakistan Public Service Commission (PSC 2nd Batch).
Upon completion of his Pre-Sea Training in HMS Conway, he joined British-India Shipping as a Deck Cadet. Then he served various Pakistan and then Bangladeshi ships upto the Master.
Returning ashore he served as the Port Director at Mongla Port, Principal Officer of MMD and Director General at Dept of Shipping.
MarEngr. Sufi M Aminul Islam (5E) was his younger brother.
We remember his contribution particularly in building Maritime Bangladesh.
